Julie London

JulieJulie London (nee Peck, September 26, 1926 - October 18th 20th, 2000) is an American performer and actress. Her career spans more than 40 years. London was a torch performer known for her soft, mellow vocals and her languid contralto voice was a recording artist on more than thirty albums of pop and jazz standards between 1955-1969. The first time she was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame was her rendition of "Cry Me a River" which she first performed in her debut album. London was also nominated in 1974 for the Golden Globe Award for her part as Dixie McCall, a nurse in the show Emergency! London was born in Santa Rosa, California to vaudevillian parents. Her acting career in Los Angeles as an actress. London's 35-year-long acting career began around 1944 with roles in films. The films featured roles for the lead female character in many westerns. London also starred alongside Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951), John Cassavetes and Robert Taylor in Saddle the Wind (1958), Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958) and Robert Mitchum with The Wonderful Country (1959). She signed a recording agreement with Liberty Records in the mid-1950s. This marked the start of her professional music career. The album she released was her last studio album in 1969 but achieved continuing success playing the female starring role of nurse Dixie McCall in the television series Emergency! (1972-1979) during which she appeared alongside her husband Bobby Troup. The show was produced by her ex-husband Jack Webb.
